St Mark's 12th Annual Christmas Tree
Festival and Christmas Market:
1-2 December 2018
Every year, at this time of year, we decorate our lovely Victorian church with dozens of Christmas Trees. We are helped in this activity by lots of local groups and schools. We are very grateful for all the help we receive.
Our twelvth annual Christmas Tree Festival's theme was “Television Programmes, Past and Present”, which inspired some terrific displays.
Thank you to the team, which makes this event happen. Examples of the trees on display are pictured. They were decorated by youth organisations such as Guides, Brownies, schools, and local churches/organisations/business etc.
The Christmas Market with stalls, tombola, activities and refreshments in the hall was open from 11:00 on Saturday.
Starting at 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, as part of the family entertainment in church, Ravensfield School did musical presentations and a Magician entertained.
On Sunday, the Christmas Market and café were open after the morning service from 11:45 am until 4:00 pm.
We run a competition for the most popular tree - voted for by Festival visitors.
The favourite trees (Under 16s group entries):
Pirates on TV - Ravensfield School Year 2 Sesame Street - St Mark's Praise and Play
The favourite trees (Over 16s group entries):
Remembrance Sunday - Purls of Wisdom Butterflies - Old Chapel Unitarians
There was a Christmas Carols Concert by Arnfield Brass Band at 2:00 pm, which included readings and poems by the congregation, after which the certificates were presented by Councillor Jackie Lane.
On Monday, children from local primary schools came to look at the trees with their teachers to admire the trees and enjoy the beauty of the church.
The weekend is always very successful and enjoyed by all who attend.
