St Mark's 11th Annual Christmas Tree
Festival and Christmas Market:
24-26 November 2017
Every year, at this time of year, we decorate our lovely Victorian church with dozens of Christmas Trees. We are helped in this activity by lots of local groups and schools. We are very grateful for all the help we receive.
Our twelvth annual Christmas Tree Festival's theme was “Mad about Musicals”, which inspired some terrific displays.
Thank you to the team, led by Sandra Austin, who make this event happen. Examples of the trees on display are pictured. They were decorated by youth organisations such as Guides, Brownies, schools, and local organisations/business etc.
The Festival and Christmas Market, with cafe in the hall, were open for visitors at 6:00 pm on Friday 24 November. In the church there was a Family Fun Night with crafts, and a short film telling a story.
The Christmas Market with stalls, tombola, activities and refreshments in the hall was open from 11:00 on Saturday.
Starting at 2:00 pm on Saturday afternoon, as part of the family entertainment in church, Ravensfield School did musical presentations and Adam Hill, a Magician, entertained.
On Sunday, the Christmas Market and café were open after the morning service from around 11:30 am until 4:00 pm.
We run a competition for the most popular tree - voted for by Festival visitors.
The favourite trees (Under 16s group entries):
Shrek - St Mark's Praise and Play; The Lion King - Ravensfield School Year 1
The favourite trees (Over 16s group entries):
Blues Brothers - Water Aid' ; The Flower Drum Song - Yew Tree Singers
The certificates were presented by Councillor Jackie Lane:
This was followed at 2:00 pm with a Christmas Carols Concert by Arnfield Brass Band.
On Monday, children from local primary schools came to look at the trees with their teachers to admire the trees and enjoy the beauty of the church.
The weekend is always very successful and enjoyed by all who attend.
